Robert Gatland, 77, of Wilton passed away unexpectedly on August 24, 2017.  

Bob was born on January 7, 1940 in Buffalo, NY, to the late Franklin Gatland and M. Esther Ford Gatland.  He grew up in Lynbrook, NY, and attended college at Lehigh University.   He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and lived most of his life in North Merrick, NY.  Bob was a teacher at MacArthur High School in Levittown, NY, before retiring in 2000.  

Bob enjoyed a very active retirement; he was an avid bicyclist and skier, and could be found most mornings at the local Y.  He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren, and traveled extensively with his wife.  He also had a passion for model railroading.  He was a founding member of Long Island N-Trak and was involved in the local Albany N-Trak club and Upstate Model Railroaders.  He was much loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family, extended family, and many friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy (Siebert) Gatland; son, Kevin Gatland and his wife Julie, and their children, Eva, Nicholas, and Jacob. He also leaves his brother Franklin Gatland and his wife Joanne; brother in law Robert Siebert, and many nephews and wonderful friends who will miss him dearly.  

A memorial celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 17, at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Ln, Saratoga Springs, New York, 12866.
