Hebron, NY
Ralph L. Getty of County Route 31 passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 25, 2018 surrounded by his family following a short period of declining health. He was 82.
Born on July 30, 1936 in Hebron, NY, he was the son of Lawrence W. and Florence I. (Campbell) Getty.
A lifelong resident of Hebron, he attended Washington Academy in Salem.
On June 28, 1962, he married Jean Churchill. They were married for 49 years until her passing on July 4, 2011.
In addition to being a lifelong farmer, he was employed as a bank loan officer of the First National Bank in Greenwich and retired as Supervisor of Transportation for the Hartford Central School where he drove bus for more than 30 years. Following retirement, he worked full time alongside his son Robert in the family farm.
Over the years, he was active in various community organizations serving more than 64 years with the Hebron Fire Company where he held several offices, a Hebron Town Council member for more than 35 years, a 40 year member of the Washington County Fair Board, and the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church.
Besides his wife Jean, he is pre-deceased by a brother Ray Getty.
He leaves two sons: Robert Getty and wife Sheila, and David Getty and wife Susan, all of Hebron; a daughter Margaret Keyes and her fiancé Elmer Cary of Salem; grandchildren: Jenna Getty, Lauren Getty, Rebecca Keyes, Matthew Keyes, Christopher Keyes, Cory Clarkson, Julie Randles and husband Greg; a great-granddaughter Sophie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 am Saturday, September 29, at the West Hebron United Presbyterian Church in West Hebron (casual dress and fireman t-shirts preferred).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hebron Volunteer Fire Company, Inc., 3165 County Route 30, Hebron, NY 12865.
