Joseph "Papa Joe" Dennison

Joseph W “Papa Joe” Dennison age 77 passed away at Stratton VA Medical Center, on May 23, 2017.

Joe was born in Hebron on October 13 1939, to Emma Matteson Dennison and Joseph H Dennison. Joseph was a graduate of Granville Central School, class of 1960. Following graduation he enlisted into the air force and serviced his country with pride.  After the air force Joe worked at Albany savings bank until he retired in 1990. Joe came out of retirement and worked at Indian River adult home until its closing in 1994. He also worked at Apollo fuels following Indian River.

Joe loved playing pool, watching his grandsons play baseball, doing puzzles and anything to keep his mind going.  He enjoyed helping anyone who needed a helping hand; he was a very kind and generous man.  Joe never got married but 30 years ago he adopted Maggie Baker and her 3 sons; Jon, Andrew and Louis and for the past few years Joe enjoyed thanksgiving dinner with his sisters Dorothy and Helen. Joe held his family close to his heart.

Joe is preceded in death by his brothers; Edwin, Rodger, Milford, James, Timothy and Stanley. His sisters; Ethel Cruthers, Brenda Lewis and Jo Carol Mosher,  many nieces, nephews and cousins and his living sisters Dorothy and Helen.   Joe was embraced into another family in which he became their father, grandfather and great grandfather; his daughter Maggie baker, His grandson Jon Baker (Ellie), Katriel, Clayton, Madison, Abigail, Mackenzie and Braydon; grandson Andrew Baker (Meghan) his little helpers Alexia, Savannah and Andrew, grandson Louis Ross (Naomi) Selene and Xavier and Louis Ross the second (Kandi).

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY.  Family and friends may call from 11 am to 12:15 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. 

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 pm at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY following the service. 

We would like to thank fort Hudson visiting nurses. Stratton VA Medical Center, Granville EMS, his care givers; Maggie Baker, Andrew Baker, Meghan Edwards, Anotonette Devino, Sonia Parker for all of your care and compassion through Joes illness.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to any boys club of America in Joes name and or of your choosing.
