James E. Smeltzer Jr., age 33, has silently closed the door of life and departed from us on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a hard battle with cancer.   

He was born on May 27, 1984 in Portsmouth, VA, the son of Michele Smeltzer and James E. Smeltzer Sr.. 

James was a Prep Cook for the Boston Market for many years.  He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends, fishing on the lake, and playing his PS4, he especially enjoyed his game Black Ops.  He also he had a passion for collecting swords.  He had a giant personality and a beautiful gentle spirit.  James always had a smile and was quick to laugh.  He was liked by all who met him and loved by all who knew him.  James gentleness and love was an inspiration to everyone he met.  He often brought out the good in people.

He is survived by his mother, Michele Smeltzer; father, James E. Smeltzer Sr.; sister Kimberly Allen; brother, Jeremy Pratt (Elisabeth); aunt, Tammy Schultz (Kevin); nephews, Robert Allen, Samara Rose, Dakota James, Joshua Pratt, Kaylee Braiden and many friends who will miss him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Agnes Antun (his special Nana).

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY.  Family and friends may call from 10:00 am to 10:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the A3 nurses, at Saratoga Hospital, for all their compassion and support they gave James and the family. A very special thanks to Michelle Mauer for her notes of support and encouragement to James during his stay at the hospital.
