George Smith Obituary

George L. Smith, age 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Wesley Community Health Center. 

He was born on April 12, 1936 in Troy, NY, the son of the late Lyman Smith and Helen Toomey Smith.

He was a graduate of St. Columba High School.  He loved sports in his youth and played basketball in High School. Later he enjoyed coaching baseball Little League in Ballston Spa. and also, Babe Ruth in Ballston Spa.   George worked for the State in Albany, General Electric in Schenectady, St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, and retired from Bank of America. 

He is survived by his son Mike Smith; brother, William (Mary Jane) Smith; granddaughter, Sarah and many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy Smith; son, Paul Smith. 

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY.   Family and friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:45 am prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY following the service.
