SARATOGA SPRINGS—Gary Robert Newland, age 65, entered his spiritual home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 7, 2018.
He was born on October 20, 1952 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late Walter and Anna Mae Crawn Newland.
Gary was in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was a master carpenter in Conetoe, NC for many years. He was an avid fisherman, and was the president of the Ruritan Club, Conetoe, NC Chapter for 3 years running. Gary loved the LORD and served as a board member in the Conetoe United Methodist Church.
Gary’s greatest joy and accomplishment in life was bringing love and laughter to everyone he had ever met. His loving, giving, and sincere nature will forever be missed by all.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife Deborah of 40 years; son Douglas Robert Pollock; daughters Lisa Ann Choat (Albert); Annamarie Newland; grandchildren: Christopher, Kaitlyn, Ernestine, Angelica, Kristina, Taylor, Bonnie, Lakeisha, Alexis; two great-grandchildren: Mason, Joshua; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; sisters: Retired LTC. Patti Taylor (Peter), Sharon Way, Dorothy Goldsmith (William), Kathy English, Thelma Tovar (Victor); his aunt Stella Schaeffer, who played an intricate part of Gary’s life; sister-in-law Roxi Cook; sister-in-law Sandra Brooker who played an important role in Gary and Debby’s life.
Surviving step-mother Gayle Newland. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Cook; his brothers-in-law Steven Way and Thomas English.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetary, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY.
