Elizabeth Hulka Clark Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” Clark

Cornwall, NY

Elizabeth H. Clark (nee Hulka) passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 25, 2018. She was born in Victory Mills, NY, the daughter of the late George and Anna Hulka, one of nine children. Her family later moved to Saratoga Springs, NY.

She attended a one-room schoolhouse. With a steely determination to do well in school, she graduated from Saratoga Springs High School with Department Honors in French, as well as scholarship honors. She earned a B.A. from NY State College for Teachers in Albany and a M.A. from Paterson State College, NJ.

She married the love of her life Henry F. Clark in 1942 and raised their 3 children together in Dumont, NJ, he predeceased her in 1984. She taught second grade students in Bergenfield, NJ for 25 years. In 1987, she was named Teacher of the Year and was honored at the NJ Governors Teachers Recognition Program.  She also received a letter of congratulation from her Congressman.

She had a true pioneering spirit. She became enamored with world travel and often brought her grandchildren with her. After years of camping, she and Henry built a summer home at Lake George where they enjoyed boating, all water sports and gatherings with family and friends. She loved her evening boat rides, even at the age of 98.

After Henry passed away, she moved to Cornwall, NY to be near daughter Carole Hunt and helped with the Hunt’s 4 children. She became president of the Cornwall Golden Agers and found new travel buddies. She is remembered by her radiant smile, her love of reading, walking, and gardening.

Recently, her son and daughter-in- law, Hank and Debbie Clark, welcomed Betty into their home.  The family is very grateful to caregiver Sherri Brown as well as Hospice.

She is survived by daughter Linda (Stef) Seifried, their children Chris (Gary) Lackos, Bonnie (Mike Myer) Seifried, and Rosemary Seifried. Daughter Carole (Scott) Hunt, their children Kevin (Ann) Hunt, Lanie (Russ) Shute, Kyle (Ashley) Hunt, and Darren Hunt. Son Henry Jr. (Debbie) Clark, their children Jael (Brandon) Beckman and David Henry (Erin) Clark; and by great-grandchildren: Thomas Lackos, Stone Beckman, Tessa and Hudson Henry Hunt, Braydon Hunt, and Molly Shute.
