Donald Kugler, 81 passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Saratoga Hospital, with his loving family at his side.

Born on April 13, 1935 in Schenectady, NY to the late Mac Donald and Anna Weidman Kugler.

Donald grew up in Schenectady, NY and was a graduate of Draper High School, class of 1953.  Don had taken the Life Underwriter Training Program with various courses in Accounting, Business Administration and computers.  He held a license in Life Insurance, Property and Casualty Insurance as well as a Notary Public.  During his career, Donald has been a Prudential Insurance agent, Sales Manager, Vice President and Treasurer of a general Insurance Agency, Vageline and Carman Inc..  Don also owned his own business, “Lawns by Don” for 25 years.  He enjoyed a good game of poker, playing golf, NASCAR and spending time with friends.  He was also a member of St. John’s Masonic #22 Lodge.      

Don married Joyce Kugler on October 12, 1985 and they spent over 31 wonderful years together.  

Don was actively involved in the fire service for over 50 years, first as a 25-year member of J.A. Barkley Hose Co. No. 1 in Argyle, NY, then as a 28-year member of the Greenfield Fire District, Greenfield, NY, retiring as a life member of Maple Avenue Co #4 where he served as Treasurer for many years.  He was actively involved in the Fire Police Squad and was a Board member of the Association of Fire Districts of the Capital Area.  He also served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Greenfield Fire District for 11 years, before taking on the responsibility of Fire Commissioner of the Greenfield Fire District for 14 years, serving as the Board Chairman for 10 years, including sitting Chairman in 2017.

He was also a member of the St. John’s Masonic #22 Lodge and the Lion’s Club in Argyle, NY.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Kugler; son, Richard Kugler; daughter, Judith Rappold; grandchildren, Alfred, Garrett (Amanda), Lindsey and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ava.

Family and Friends may call Thursday, April 13, 2017 between the hours of 5 pm and 8 p. and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Friday April 14, 2017 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY. 

Interment with military honors will be held at 2 pm on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY.

Family and friends are invited to join the family for further fellowship following the service at the Maple Avenue Fire Department, 615 Maple Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
