James Anthony Birch, Sr.

James Anthony Birch, Sr., age 82, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 23, 1942, in Amsterdam, NY, to the late Dominick Birch and Dolores Bellows Birch.

James dedicated many years of his life as a machinist for GE in Schenectady before retiring. Beyond his professional life, James found immense joy in the simplicity and beauty of nature. An avid bird watcher, his favorite feathered friends were hummingbirds. His love for animals extended beyond observation, as he took special care of his own pets and welcomed any creature seeking warmth and care into his home.  James leaves behind a legacy of warmth, compassion, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.  

James is survived by his son, James Jr. (Dawn); two daughters, Noel (Rob) and Eva (Al); two stepdaughters, Veronica (Steven) and Melissa (Sean); sister, Delores Waight; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will deeply miss him.  James and Alice were also known as Babe and Baber to their friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Birch, and his siblings: Judy Birch, Grace Chichester, Daniel Birch, Donald Birch, and Dominick Birch, Jr.

Calling hours to honor and remember James A. Birch, Sr. will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Compassionate Funeral Care, located at 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. following the calling hours at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 150 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
