Walter George Sheard, age 95, of Greenfield Center, died at his daughter’s home in Madison, Connecticut on Monday evening, April 10, 2017, from the complications of a stroke. He was surrounded by his family. Born October 14, 1921 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Col. Walter George Sheard, Sr. and Johana Marie Sheard and husband to the late Shirley Sheard, who died on November 12, 2012, to whom he was married for more than 60 years.
Walter was passionate about fine woodworking, but not quite as much as he was about reading his Bible. He learned to read Hebrew as a 35-year old adult, and modeled a rare and gentle love toward everyone around him. Graduate of Clarkson College, he was an Electrical Engineer for Underwriter’s Laboratories for 30 years, and could fix almost anything. He served the members of the Windsor Avenue Bible Church as an elder for much of his adult life.
He is survived by four children: Keith Sheard of Corona, California, Paige and Kurt Jaeger of Greenfield Center, Daniel and Suzanne Sheard of Elizabethtown, PA, and Rachel and Brian Kimmel of Madison, Connecticut; 14 grandchildren, Samuel Sheard, Elizabeth Sheard, Sarah Sheard, Joshua Sheard, Daniel Jaeger, Thomas Jaeger, David Jaeger, Phil Jaeger, Lauren Sheard, Andrew Sheard, Rebekah Sheard, Benjamin Sheard, Joy Kimmel, and Wesley Kimmel; and 9 great grandchildren; four siblings, Sara Rowlinson, Mara Georgen, Phoebe Moon, Bartholomew Sheard and over 30 nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 siblings: William Sheard, Katherine Sidrane, Burcher Sheard, Franklin Sheard.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at the Greenfield Center Baptist Church in Greenfield, NY.
A viewing will be from 10:30 -11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Greenfield Center Baptist Church, 30 Wilton Rd, Greenfield Center, NY 12833.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 pm at the Saratoga National Cemetery on Friday, April 14th, 2017. Walter was a World War II veteran who served this country in the Pacific theater in the Navy.
