Thomas James Cottone Sr.

February 18, 1943 ~ February 17, 2017 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Thomas J. Cottone Sr., age 73, has silently closed the door of life and departed from us on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Rutland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on February 18, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Vincent Cottone Sr. and Christine Cassara Cottone.

Tom graduated from Saratoga High School, and was a member of the Saratoga HS Class of 1960.  Upon graduation Tom was proud to service his country in the US Navy for 4 years.

Tom was a Lineman with the NY Telephone Company in Glens Falls and the surrounding area for many years, retiring in 1998.

Tom was a very active member with the Search and Rescue Team 5-1, the American Legion Post 0273 in Florida, the Elks Lodge #81 for 27 years, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles AERIE 2586.  He was a rock and an amazing father and grandfather to all his grandkids and great grandchildren.  He had a giant personality and a beautiful gentle spirit.  Tom was a very positive person about everything and always said “Don’t sweat the small stuff!”.  He was a man who always went above and beyond the call of duty.  Tom always had a smile and was quick to laugh.  He was liked by all who met him and loved by all who knew him.  His gentleness and love was an inspiration to everyone he met.  He often brought out the good in people. This was especially true for his children and grandchildren around him.  Tom felt the most at peace when he was enjoying one of his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing or being on his boat.

Tom is survived by his companion Melanie Lincoln Potter; sons, Thomas Cottone Jr., Matthew Ball, Richard Bogardus; daughters, Rhonda (Cottone) Sullivan, Stefanie Thomas, Shea Ball; grandchildren, Brittany Pearse, Amanda Sullivan, Nikki Becker, Kristina Cottone, Jaden Fitzpatrick, Stella, Maverick and Xander Thomas; great-grandchildren, Rylan and Hayden Sullivan, Wesley Jones, Brayden, Landon and Colby Becker; sister-in-law, Millie Cottone; additional family, Joanne Simzer (Gary), Diane Cottone, Kellie Fitzpatrick; son-in-law, Byron Sullivan; daughter-in-law, Audrey Cottone; many nieces and nephews and special friends who love him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vincent “Jimmy” Cottone, sister Sandra Cottone Breuer, nephew Brian James Cottone and step-son Jeffrey Bogardus.
