Robert Malcom Herring Sr., passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 28, 1935 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of the late George Herring and Margaret Teabout Herring.

Robert graduated from Amsterdam High School, class of 1954.  He was an avid Softball and basketball player.  Following graduation Robert served his country with pride in the US Army from 1954 to 1956.

Robert moved his family to Saratoga springs where he met his beloved wife Louise Ivey and raised their five children.  He was well known in the community as “Broadway Bob” or “Old Man”.  He worked in construction for the City of Saratoga for many years.  He was a man who loved sports and people, he loved to laugh and make others laugh, but his most precious joy was spending time with his family. 

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Louise Herring; children, Tina, Walter, Robbie, Sonya and Tonya; fourteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers, George Herring, Martin Blood; sister, Margaret Blood, Patricia Blood, Beatrice Blood, and many friends who will miss him dearly.   

He is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Herring, Paul Herring, Thomas Blood and sister, Charlene Blood Ellison.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, NY.  Family and friends may call from 1 pm to 1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
