Richard Bruce Hill

August 26, 1943 ~ November 11, 2016 (age 73) 73 Years Old

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Richard B. Hill, age 73, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was the son of the late Donald Hill and Lillian Calhoun Hill, born on August 26, 1943 in Middletown, NY.

Rich graduated from Middletown High school, class of 1961.  He enlisted in the US Airforce and served from 1961 to 1965. During his service, he was trained and specialized in repair of electronic components on military aircraft. Following his military service, Rich continued his education attending Orange County Community College, and completed his education at SUNY Albany earning his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.  After Rich graduated, he began his career with General Electric working with early stage computers. Later in his career with G.E., he became involved in the business/management side of Power Systems in Schenectady, acting as procurement manager until he retired in 1998.

Rich was very much a devoted and loving family man and always looked forward to spending time with all his family and friends. Growing up in Middletown, there were family dinners with all the grandparents and relatives every week.  As a young boy, he would escape to the lake with his older brother to go fishing and play baseball with the neighborhood kids. He also would caddy at a local golf course with his brother during the summers. In the same town, he met his future wife, Judy, working in a neighborhood ice cream / soda shop that was owned by her father.  They later married in 1968 and moved on to build a house in Saratoga, start his career at G.E. and start a family of his own. In raising his family in his new home, he created close friendships of his own in the neighborhood which became extensions of his family. Over the years he enjoyed being part of bowling leagues with his wife and friends and would take opportunities to share his love for fishing and golf with his own family.  After he retired in 1998, he was able to share many more new passions alongside his wife. They were able to travel and develop new hobbies together such as duplicate bridge and hiking. They both became great competitive bridge players in duplicate bridge as a team, eventually earning their silver life master’s awards. Once his grandchildren arrived one by one, he especially looked forward to spending time with them and his sons’ families. His lifelong love for family brought him joy and comfort in his final days.

He is survived by his loving wife Judy Hill; sons, Gregory Hill (Kristie), Christopher Hill (Priscilla); brother, Jon Hill (Suzanne); sister-in-law, Patricia Noll (Frederick); grandchildren, Landon, Jake, Brendon, Brianna and many Nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy Jankowski.
