John Edward Duane

July 5, 1960 ~ March 31, 2016 (age 55) 55 Years Old


John Edward Duane, age 55, of Greenfield Center, went into the arms of Jesus on March 31st 2016, as a result of a tragic accident. 

He was born in Troy, NY, on July 5th 1960, the son of Edward and Florence Carr Duane.  He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School Class of 1979.  Thereafter, was employed by Anne’s Washington Inn.

In 1982, John served his country in the United States Army for 4 years at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at Camp Page, South Korea, achieving the rank of Specialist 4th Class.

While John was in Oklahoma, he owned and operated the ABC Cab Company in Lawton.  During his time there, he became very close with his beloved Oklahoma relatives.  Upon returning to his hometown, he was the Superintendent of the Arcade building on Broadway and then started his own business, Adirondack Painters and Remodelers, which serviced many businesses in the area including Belmote Builders.

He is survived by his partner Kathleen Olsen Larmon, his children; Christine Duane, San Diego, CA and Shawn Duane, Anaheim, CA, his beloved mother; Florence Carr Duane, sisters; Mary Helena Carr, (Gary), Salem, MA, Eileen Garlett (Jim), Wilton, Diane Woodard (Andy), Ballston Spa, and Dene Reed (Tom), Defreestville, brother; Paul Duane, Greenfield Center, aunt; Mary Butler, Nashua, NH, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Edward, brother Peter and nephew Thomas Reed.

John will be greatly missed.  He was an exceptionally loving father, brother, and meticulously caring son.  He was very proud of his service in the military and was devoted to veterans causes in the area.  He always had a cheerful word, a helping hand, and a wonderful smile for all.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, April 8th, 2016 at The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of John can be made to VFW Post 420 in Saratoga Springs.
