Dorothea Marie Brown

October 23, 1929 ~ June 4, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Dorothea Marie Brown, age 86, of Saratoga Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Haynes House of Hope, in Granville, where she spent her last days in a peaceful country home nestled in the beautiful farmlands of Washington County, with the rolling hills of the Adirondacks in the distance. She smiled at the birds singing at the feeder outside her window, and at the chipmunks running back and forth on her patio.

Dorothea was born on October 23, 1929, in Albany, NY, the daughter of Theodore “Chicky” Harrington and Dorothea Crouch Harrington.

She then spent her youth in Rensselaer, where she graduated from St. John’s Academy, class of 1947.

Dorothea devoted her time to raising her children, and to then making sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were well cared for, and well fed: She liked to cook meals where there was sure to be enough for everyone. She was a wonderful and supportive mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed vases full of gladiolas, irises in the garden, anything with an iris painted on it, and the Yankees.

Dorothea is survived by her husband of 58 years, Henry J. Brown, by her children Mary Lou Wait (Jeffrey), Suzanne Whittemore (Carroll), Mary Anne Mason (Shawn), and by her grandchildren Jennifer Wait, Arielle Wait-Davis, Katherine Wait, Sarah Gardner, Norah Olley, and Thom Brady, and by several great-grandchildren. She was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, and she will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
