Clifton Atkinson

Clifton Harold Atkinson, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Wesley Healthcare Center with his loving wife by his side. 

He was born on January 11, 1929 in Bronx, New York, the son of the late Harold Crawford Atkinson and Blodwen Jones Atkinson.

Clifton graduated from Samuel Gompers High School in the Bronx and worked at a few parking garages in Manhattan meeting a variety of interesting people including some celebrities prior to beginning his career as a civil servant. He then worked as a Bus Operator for the Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transportation Operating Authority (MaBSTOA) until he retired in 1989.

Clifton loved being outdoors and spending time with family. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren whenever he could and would look forward to the week each would spend with him and his wife Anna during the summer.

Clifton is survived by his beloved wife Anna Atkinson of 42 years; Children, Christine Atkinson, Margaret (Atkinson) & Joseph Pilla, Patricia Atkinson (daughter-in-law), Helen Atkinson, Helen Csogany, Elizabeth & Michael Dunn Grandchildren: Kim Mannino, Christopher Mannino, Nicole Alexis, Jessica Zottoli, James Atkinson, Dana Delia, Roger Lowden, Aubrey Dunn and 12 Great Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Gay Tarasuk and Gladys Atkinson and his son Clifton H. Atkinson, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave. (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.), Saratoga Springs, New York.  Family and friends may call from 12:00 noon to 1:45 pm prior to the service.
