Alice Hitzegrad, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on December 17, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Oliver J. Toland and Theresa Normann Toland.  

Alice was a Nurse Assistant at the VA Hospital in Albany who devoted a lifetime to caregiving.  She devoted herself to her friends, neighbors, community and, most of all, her family. The love and devotion she had for her children was inspiring to even the most supportive parent.  She loved to read and do crosswords, and going to bingo, but she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.  Alice was also a devoted member of the American Legion on west avenue. 

She is survived by her sons, Ralph Hitzegrad (Tessie), Glenn Hitzegrad (Laura); daughters, Madline Qua (Corey), Margaret Alexander (Mark), Laura Mahney (John), seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, Jamie Berardi (Nick), the granddaughter she raised as her own, and many friends. 

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Hitzegrad.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave, (Rte 9 and/or Marion Ave.) Saratoga Springs, New York.  Family and friends may call from 12 noon to 1:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
